Introduced in 1975. the basic controller was part of the world’s first commercially available DCS, and Honeywell has been supporting it ever since.
Honeywell helps users migrate to Experion when control system changes are needed and it makes economic sense to replace the existing controller.
During the migration process, two key functions need to be achieved – existing field signals must be easily and quickly migrated to the new control system, the
Existing control schemes must be migrated and, ideally, improved. To meet these two migration requirements, Honeywell offers advanced solutions that
help match the functionality of the old system to Experion.’ Signal Match is a suite of hardware components and project services that
Simply and easily transfer the I/O connections of your existing TDC 2000 control system so you can experience the many benefits of Experion PKS.
‘Control Match is a suite of services and tools to convert your existing control algorithms and schemes to Experion.
Control Match enables you to take advantage of the many new features in Experion to enhance the performance of your control system and improve your ability to make informed business decisions.
Q: What if I need to do more than just maintain what I have?
Answer:Over the past 30 years, Honeywell has made significant www.ge-drive.com investments to ease the strain on technology and add value to the TDC and TPS control systems’
value to the large installed base. Continuous development is Honeywell’s strategy and commitment to stay with customers through technological advances. For example, Honeywell
Honeywell is the only controls company that offers the ability to integrate and, if desired, migrate a 30-year-old control system to the latest state-of-the-art
control system, Experion PKS.
Honeywell offers the ability to integrate or migrate to Experion. With integration, you can retain the intellectual property developed over the past 30 years, and you can
add new features such as Foundation Fieldbus, HART and exception management capabilities. With migration, you can go from the lowest level of control, to the most advanced level of control, to today’s new, higher levels of control.
By migrating, you can go from the lowest level of control to today’s new, higher level of advanced control solutions and gain additional benefits while reducing ongoing maintenance and support costs.
Q: What is Experion PKS?
A: Experion PKS is the first scalable platform with knowledge-driven applications that combine business and manufacturing intelligence.
Operator Effectiveness Solutions – One Honeywell is the only provider of an integrated solution that addresses alarm management,
boundary management and operations management issues to improve operational reliability. Asset Effectiveness Solutions-Honeywell’s approach to asset management goes beyond
just on-site equipment management. We monitor the performance of critical plant assets to reduce process downtime and unplanned maintenance costs.
Q: I have 1-to-8 controller redundancy in my current installed control system. What type of redundancy will I have available when I migrate to Experion?
A: When you migrate to Experion, the redundancy will be increased to 1-to-1. This new level of redundancy greatly increases the availability of the control system.
Q: Will my trend be comparable to the existing BOS/EOS Box Trend?
Answer:Box Trends are limited snapshots of process variables that can only be updated with operator intervention.Experion Trends go well beyond Box Trends and
provides truly useful historical information for the operator to analyse and control the process. All trend data is presented to the operator.
Operators can zoom, pan and select specific trend data in real time. Data points to be trended can also be selected and grouped together for real-time
process analysis.
Q:I need to improve/automate my reports to meet new requirements. Will migrating to Experion help me?
A: In addition to the greater number and type of reports available, a key feature is the ability to electronically transmit reports over the plant network to all interested parties.
to all interested parties via the plant network. You no longer need operators or engineers to manually read printed reports, perform additional calculations, and then create new
reports. In addition, all data can be automatically populated into Excel spreadsheets, automating data manipulation, analysis and distribution.
Q:What kind of new control will I have when I migrate to Experion?
A: Experion offers improved control capabilities such as model-based control, integrated loops, and logic capabilities for improved process discipline control.
Control. Cross-cell control is implemented in easy-to-use software rather than the hard-wiring between controllers that was required in the past.
Q: Can I simply ‘copy’ an existing control scheme to Experion without making any changes?
A: The Control Match service allows for simple copying of controls from an existing system to Experion. all point types and standard algorithms of Basic Controller can be easily migrated.
Q:How fast is the physical migration of a plant/plant site to a new controller?
Answer:Typical time for a physical migration to occur is 2 to 4 hours, and even less for migrating smaller systems. There are two reasons for the short downtime. First
First, the migration kit is a plug-and-play design. Simply disconnect the cables, remove a few screws on each component, install new components, and
connect or reconnect the cables, and you are done with the physical operation. The second reason is that L/O checkout can be quite efficient. All existing
existing L/O and cables were functioning properly prior to migration, and the new cables and assemblies were tested and verified at the factory prior to shipment.
Q: I have limited space available, so do I need additional cabinet space to install the new Experion controller?
A: In most cases, the new control system can be installed into an existing TDC2000 cabinet.
Q:Are there calibration and test points for ongoing maintenance?
A:Yes, calibration and test points are provided.
Q:Are there any active components on the migration kit such as CPU and network?
Answer:numberAll signal matching migration hardware is created using passive components. This greatly increases reliability and longevity and reduces the number of possible failure paths.
